About the vision behind Project 2012 and why 2012 will be a special year

Why 2012 will be a global turning point
In 2012, the world will be facing major changes: A third of the world’s countries are undergoing political shifts. More than 59 out of 193 countries will be experiencing major political events – and at least 29 of those may see a change in their national leadership. The US, China, France and Russia will be joined by Albania, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, (Faore Islands), Finland, Gabon, Ghana, (Greece), (Guinea Bissau), Iceland, India, Yemen, Kiribati, Kosovo, (Madagascar), Mali, Mexico, Palau, Palestine, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, South Korea, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Venezuela. These leadership changes could potentially affect 56% of the world’s population and over 50% of global GDP. Any changes in national leadership could impact the world as a whole due to changes in the membership of the G20 (8 out of 20) and the UN Security Council (4 out of 5).
“Project 2012″ – designed to advise decision-makers
Initiated by Roland Berger, “Project 2012″ is a collaborative venture designed to advise business and political decision-makers. Together with dedicated partners from universities and think tanks around the globe, such as the Yale World Fellows Program and HEC Paris, Roland Berger will use the results of “Project 2012″ to provide a set of strategic suggestions. A wiki makes it possible for our partners and selected experts to contribute their knowledge online wherever they may be. We look forward to seeing how this “crowd sourcing” adds a new flavor to developing ideas.
